Long, narrow, sloping town garden

Key Information

  • Emma and Jules had arrived in Bath as Lockdown took hold. We immediately identified the opportunity to open up and borrow the landscape and vistas of Bath.

    The project had two phases:

Phase 1 – Gaining control, hard landscaping, extending the upper lawn, creating new areas to relax, and build on existing planting.

Phase 2 – After living in the space for several years and the addition of their dog Leila, we created a gravel garden replacing the top lawn, building raised beds for vegetables and planting to enhance seasonal interest.

  • Client Brief
    • Bring light into the garden
    • Maximise Seating area
    • Build on existing planting

We started with a the garden that was overgrown and congested; it was long, narrow and steeply sloping. An opportunity to open up the space, creating individual rooms within the garden. We balanced  the areas using  walls, trellis and soft planting and incorporating steps to connect the areas.

We wanted to make the most of the materials and existing planting and found much of the stone for the walls while shaping the garden. Together we agreed the shrubs and plants we keep to complement the planned planting scheme.

“From a tired, patchy lawn to a stunning Mediterranean-style haven, Andy worked magic on our garden. He paid attention to every detail and went above and beyond to ensure the result was perfect. We’re absolutely thrilled with our new outdoor space and couldn’t recommend Second Nature Gardens more highly!”
